Tips for Starting Your Professional Wardrobe
We make judgments on what we perceive. People are sizing you up based on the way you walk, the way you talk, they way you act, and the way that you dress. It’s not always fair, but it’s the truth.
You want to start your next professional adventure on the right foot by stepping your professional wardrobe up a notch. You will not only take control of how others perceive you, but you will also boost your confidence and propel your precedent for success. You will want to budget about $300-500 to kick off your shopping spree with the following items:
These items will get you started on the right foot, literally and figuratively. They should get you through about a month’s worth of combinations of outfits. You want to buy these items in good quality, so that you do not need to replace them often. Classic fabrics, such as cotton, wool, and silk will last you for years, if you take care of them properly. You end up with a greater investment in the beginning, but you ultimately spend less over time.
Here are my favorite stores for men and women that give you the best combination of quality and professional looks. These retailers have good sales most seasons, and they also have clearance sections or outlets, where you can get the stables mentioned above at the fraction of the price! I find as a curvy woman of color that I can also find items that complement my shape, although going up or down a size may be required due to the cut or fabric.
You might be able to buy all of these items all at once. You may not have the money or access to some of these stores. That’s all right. Start where you can. Just remember that your attempt to present yourself as an established professional as a result of how you dress is a great way to start your career and build the foundation for a prosperous future. Folks will be picking up what you’re putting down left and right. I can’t wait to see you looking flyy as ever! I can’t wait to see you at the top!
